Responsibilities
As an Accountant, you will:
- Maintain NCUA financial systems and interface with the general ledger, including accounting, budget, capitalization/operation system, and the procurement system. Plan, develop, coordinate, and implement manual and automated system changes to correct operational deficiencies.
- Assure the integrity of internal controls in developing and maintaining NCUA’s financial systems to include monthly and year-to-date reconciliations between subsidiary accounts and the general ledger.
- Recommend improvements in internal controls and procedures to ensure that data is accurate and reliable.
- Research and analyze data to develop and prepare a variety of financial documents, management reports and presentations to a broad range of audiences.

Qualifications
Specialized experience is the experience that has equipped you with the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.
CU-09
All applicants applying for the CU-09 level must have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the CU/GS-07 level obtained in the private or public sector.
Specialized experience for this position is defined as experience: 1) providing accounting services to assigned areas or an organization; 2) providing guidance to customers; and 3) preparing written materials related to accounting.
OR
Education: 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master’s degree or master’s or equivalent graduate degree (36 semester hours or 54 quarter hours), in a field that is directly related to the work of this position. Related degrees may include Accounting, Finance, and Business Administration.
OR
A combination of graduate level education and experience as described above.
CU-11
All applicants applying for the CU-11 level must have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the CU/GS-09 level obtained in the private or public sector.
Specialized experience for this position is defined as experience: 1) preparing accounting records to comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); 2) providing guidance to customers; and 3) preparing financial documents and/or reports.
OR
Education: 3 years of progressively higher- level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree (54 semester hours or 81 quarter hours), in a field that is directly related to the work of this position. Related degrees may include Accounting, Finance, and Business Administration.
OR
A combination of Ph.D level education and experience as described above. Only graduate level education in excess of 2 years (36 semester hours) may be considered when combining education and experience.
In addition to meeting specialized experience requirements, applicants much also meet basic education requirements.
Basic Education Requirements are as follows : (A) Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor’s or higher degree in Accounting (means accounting and/or auditing); or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in Accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law;
OR
(B) Combination of education and experience, at least 4 full years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge. Your background must also include one of the following:
(1) Twenty-four semester hours in accounting or auditing courses of appropriate type and quality. This can include up to 6 hours of business law;
(2) A certificate as Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor, obtained through a written examination;
OR
(3) Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in accounting or auditing, e.g., 15 semesters hours, but that does not fully satisfy the 24-semester-hour requirement of paragraph A, provided that: (a) you have successfully worked at the full performance level in accounting, auditing, or a related field, e.g., valuation engineering or financial institution examining; (b) a panel of at least two higher level professional accountants or auditors has determined that you have demonstrated a good knowledge of accounting and of related and underlying fields that equals in breadth, depth, currency, and level of advancement that which is normally associated with successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in paragraph A; and (c) except for literal non-conformance to the requirement of 24 semester hours in accounting, your education, training, and experience fully meets the specified requirements.

SALARY: Pay will be set within the advertised pay range to align with the selectee’s skills and experience and the requirements of the position.
